The DuroMax XP5500EH is sized for the homeowner who wants a real, capable generator without paying for whole-home capacity. With 5,500 starting watts and 4,500 running watts on gasoline (and proportional figures on propane), it covers the essentials during an outage — refrigerator, freezer, sump pump, lights, modem, fans and a few power tools — and it does so on either gasoline or propane.
Dual-fuel flexibility matters in real outages. Propane stores indefinitely without going stale, runs cleaner and is often easier to get during regional emergencies; gasoline is ubiquitous in normal times. The XP5500EH lets you keep a tank of each on hand and switch fuels without tools.
DuroMax’s MX2 power technology lets the user toggle between dual 120 V output (for two separate circuits) and a full 120 V load on a single leg. That doubles the available 120 V capacity when you do not need 240 V — a useful trick on job sites and during home backup. The 224cc OHV engine starts via push-button electric start, with a backup recoil start. Solid-fill never-flat tires and a steel handle frame make moving the unit around realistic for one person.
The control panel includes 120 V household outlets, a 120/240 V twist-lock outlet and a 12 V DC battery-charging port. Low-oil shutoff and a low-tone muffler round out the package.
